Since 2017 I take care of some badgers dens for 'Het Drents Landschap'. I monitor these throughout the year by observing them with a camera trap to see how the population develops. In the mornings and evenings of May and June I visit the badgers for a few hours to see if there are any young ones and how many badgers there are in total. This is a unique chance to make pictures of this beautiful endangered species in The Netherlands. I get instructions from 'Drents landschap' and ' de dassenwerkgroep' about how I should monitor the badgers so there will be as little disturbance as possible.

The whole proces is special to experience. I have one place where two adult badgers lived in 2017 and 2018, and in 2019 two young ones were born. 2020 was a great year, as I counted five young ones and two adult females. In 2021 I saw six badgers at the same time, four of them adults and two young ones. This place grows every year and I'm looking forward to following them in the coming years.
